Jamie Rhone, owner of Jamie's Therapeutic Touch day spa in Palestine
believes that having beautiful skin will help bring out a person's
inner beauty.
As an esthetician, or skin care therapist, Rhone's goal is to help
every person achieve the goal of being beautiful inside and out. A
year ago, she experienced a face breakout and was referred by her
dermatologist to a esthetician and was impressed by the benefits of
her visits there.
"From that experience, I decided I wanted to become a
esthetician too," Rhone explained. "I went to school at the
International Dermal Institute in Carrollton. where I am currently
continuing my advanced training."
As part of her esthetician training, Rhone interned for two
months and spent the summer doing spa parties to get ready to open
her business. She opened the day spa Sept. 13. The spa features
facials using Dermalogica a line of all natural skin care products
that can only be prescribed by a doctor or skin care therapist.
Facials are specialized according to a clients particular needs.
"I offer special facials for men, women, teenagers, elderly, those
with extreme acne and people who are under stress." Rhone said. "I
also offer the LaStone facials and body treatments." LaStone, Rhone
said, uses hot and cold stones to bring oxygenated blood to the
surface and help rebuild collagen and elasticity and to detoxify the
body.
Other services offered at the spa include: microderm
abrasion, aroma therapy, reflex points, waxing, body wrapping,
chemical peels, and paraffin treatments. Tahitian Noni juice. which
Rhone said provides benefits for a number of ailments, and mineral
makeup are also offered.
"I plan to host bridal parties and children's birthday parties, "
Rhone said about future plans for the business. "Kids will get to
put on makeup, get their fingernail and toe nails painted and just
have fun," Rhone explained. "Bridal parties include makeover
sessions for the bride or bridal party as a treat for the bride or
for the whole party." The most important part of her job, Rhone
said, is to see her clients get better after visits with her. "I
want every person's skin to be beautiful because it makes them feel
beautiful," she said. "My favorite thing is to watch people light up
inside when they realize the treatments they get here help them in
some way.
Before starting her business, Rhone worked for the City of
Palestine in vital statistics. The Palestine native graduated from
Stephen F. Austin State University in December 2001 with a degree in
business. Rhone is very grateful for the love and support from her
family and friends, especially her husband, Jon, who works for
Bailey & Foster Funeral Home of Palestine. "I told him I wanted to
change careers and he supported me all the way," she said. "I
couldn't have done it without him." Her friend Michelle Candelaria
made brochures and materials to help promote the spa and another
friend, Anita Johnson, helped decorate the spa area. Rhone feels
that God has blessed each step she has taken on the path to opening
the spa. "I was already teaching aerobics here at the YMCA" Rhone
said. "Now I can help make a person's skin fit as well as their
body. "I think this is the greatest job," she said. "I love what I
am doing here. I enjoy the hands on experience helping people."
